R.I.P. Mac Miller

R.I.P. Mac Miller

Whatever you were trying to kill, i hope it’s dead.
Tonight and tomorrow I’ll try and make sure.
One more year and you would have been part of the club…
I’ll count you as one of them nonetheless.
One of the greats.

I already miss you.

Tierra Whack – Mumbo Jumbo

Tierra Whack – Mumbo Jumbo

‘Mumbo Jumbo’ is a great alternative name for ‘mumble rap’. I used to dislike mumble rap. But i sort of did a 180 on it once i started listening to it as if it’s just another instrument layer.

This style has been around for a long time, even some of the all-time greats used to mumble, take Louis Armstrong for example.
For the past few years this style has pretty much taken over hiphop. With artist like Young Thug, 21 Savage, Desiigner, Future, etc. utilising it as their trademark style.

This is the first time though that i heard it being used so predominantly throughout the entire track, but also as part of the songs concept. It is almost as though Tierra Whack used the initial reference recording for the vocals/flow and then just stuck with that.

The track is really weird, but i like it. And the amazingly shot, creepy video makes it even beter.

Michael Kiwanuka – One More Night

Michael Kiwanuka – One More Night

This song is so smooth and soulfull. The accompanying video is really cool too and it has this almost M. Night Shyamalan-esque reveal (it’s nothing major, like the final clue in ‘The Sixth Sense’ or anything, but it came quite unexpected for me). Make sure you check out his other work if this is to your liking. I can most certainly recommend his track “Black Man In A White World”.

You can get Michael Kiwanuka’s new album ‘Love & Hate’ on iTunes right now.
Or you can stream the new tracks on Spotify and/or on Apple Music.

Masego – Tadow (featuring FKJ)

Masego – Tadow (featuring FKJ)

I am not exactly sure which came first. But is seems like Masego & FKJ’s live & improvised(!) performance was so good, they decided to make an official track for it. And rightfully so. The live performance is just mesmerising to watch and the official single is a great addition. Great vibes all around.

Let me know what you think about the track below!
